Snack Table

We have started a very important work in our classroom, snack table.

Snack is offered each day and is typically two choices. A piece of cut fruit, veggies, cheese, crackers, etc. There is just one rule, “You must invite someone to join you.” Snack is better together!

Children notice when their body is hungry and then take an inventory on who is available. They notice the card that shows them how many of each item they can choose. Sometimes they can both read the card and other times one child helps the other, these are the foundational aspects of building community. They share snack at a dedicated table where they are encouraged to take their time and share conversation.

When they are finished, they sponge and sweep the area getting it ready for the next children. This act of grace and courtesy prepares the young child for a lifetime of sharing meals, conversations, and working together within community.

As we enter the Thanksgiving season, may you share time around a table with those you love!
