Wesley on the Move: August 25 – September 1

Wesley On the Move! August 25 – September 1

In Worship: We will continue our Worship series, entitled “Unafraid” that will offer insights into living with courage and hope in uncertain times. This week: “Unafraid: Aging, Death, and Dying.”

SUNDAY August 25th Volunteers
OFFERING COUNTERS: John Lingo and Donna Johnston
GREETERS: Ken McPherson and Martha Butler

Community Breakfast on 8/31: Our Next Guy Ramsey “Breakfast on Us” community breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, August 31st from 9-11 am. You can volunteer to help or donate an item such as: eggs, juice, bread, fruit or milk. A sign-up sheet is available outside the main (West) office.

The Tie That Binds:  At Wesley, All means All and our connection to one another is grounded in our faith. And so, starting September 8 we will focus on “the tie that binds” based on Colossians 3:14 – “Above all, clothe yourself with love which binds everything together…”  In September and October, we will have several opportunities to celebrate our community and connection – and we want to hear your ideas about potential gatherings!

In the spirit of celebration and connection, each Sunday at lunch, you are invited to share your reflections with your tablemates. Here are two questions you will be invited to respond to: A) How or when do you feel community at Wesley and what possibilities do you see to strengthen community?  B) What were your thoughts or feelings about the Worship service?  Did anything stand out and will you carry any aspect of the Worship into the week?

Sunday Community Lunch – We hope that you will join us each Sunday for this extended time to fellowship together. Lunch is needed for these upcoming dates in September: 8, 22, and 29. Please fill out the sign up sheet or contact Jean Hendrickson (jdhendrickson@sbcglobal.net).

Children and Youth Update:  As school resumes, we want to thank each of you for donating your time and money to our children and youth ministry!  Because of your support, each of our children and youth attended church camp and participated in fun fellowship outings free of charge for their families!

Fall activities for children and youth ministry at Wesley begin Sunday, September 8th!

We will continue our Worship series, entitled “Unafraid” that will offer insights into living with courage and hope in uncertain times. Based on the book by Adam Hamilton, topics we will take up in the coming weeks include: crime, terrorism, failure, disappointing others, insignificance, loneliness, missing out, change, aging, dying and illness.  This week: “Unafraid: Change and Missing Out.”

Also, this Sunday is the next Wesley Church Council Meeting at noon in the Council Room downstairs. As always, you are invited to attend!

LGBTQIA+ Listening and learning opportunities: The Wesley Church Council invites the entire Wesley community to be part of continued listening and learning as we discern together Wesley’s next steps as a community of faith. In August there is one more opportunity with more coming in September:

August 25th: Facilitated table conversations at lunch. During our community lunch, facilitators will be positioned at some of the tables to invite conversation around two questions: A) How has what you believe about LGBTQIA+ inclusion changed or been affirmed since childhood? B) What key encounters affirmed or changed your beliefs?
